Past the border springs and the volcano to Františkovy Lázně

1557
Start: Cheb33 km

Discover the charm of the westernmost tip of our bike trail, its mysterious natural beauty, and elegant spa architecture. The trip begins in historic Cheb, where you can admire the unique Špalíček complex of merchants’ houses or the Krajinka complex at the foot of Cheb Castle. From Cheb, you’ll set off by bike along Cycle Route No. 6, following the Skalka Reservoir toward Podhoří and Tůně, from where you’ll reach the village of Pomezí nad Ohří. You’ll cross the state border into Schirnding, Germany, near which the iron-rich Carolinquelle (Karolin Spring) rises. From the spring, head along the Eger River to the Dubina border crossing, from where you’ll reach the Rybářská kyselka spring. This iron-rich spring, saturated with carbon dioxide, rises on the outskirts of the abandoned village of Rybáře; it is sheltered by a wooden gazebo, and you can fill your bottle with fresh, refreshing mineral water directly from the collection pipe. Not far from there, you’ll join bike route No. 2063, which will reliably take you all the way to Komorní hůrka. This is our youngest extinct volcano, whose origins were even studied by the famous poet J. W. Goethe. Bike trail No. 2063 is perfectly rideable; however, when riding up the volcanic hill itself, you’ll need to walk your bike for a short distance to protect rare plants. From there, it’s just a short ride along bike trail No. 23 to Františkovy Lázně. In this elegant town, you’ll be enchanted by the Empire-style architecture and the well-maintained spa parks. The town is world-famous for its healing springs, such as the František Spring and the Glauber Spring, which you can taste right in the colonnades. Don’t miss the famous statue of little František either. From Františkovy Lázně, you’ll then return to Cheb again along Bike Route No. 23.
