Along the Eger Bike Trail: A Journey Through the Middle Ages and Unique Rock Formations

1557
Start: Karlovy Vary31 km

Start your bike trip in Karlovy Vary at the Cheb Bridge, where you’ll join Bike Route No. 6—the Eger Bike Trail. You’ll ride along a well-known and completely safe paved section that winds through a deep, forested river canyon. Your first major stop, after seven kilometers, will be the Svatošské Skály National Natural Monument. Impressive granite towers rise directly on the opposite bank of the river, so you can get a close-up view of them right from the bike path. Right by the trail, you’ll also find the famous Jan Svatoš cycling hub and restaurant, where you can enjoy a great meal and relax without having to cross the river. From the rocks, continue on through the pleasant shade of the forest along the river. After a short while, the path will take you past a children’s playground and a canoeing campsite, from where it’s just a short distance to Loket Castle itself. Cross the bridge and you’ll find yourself in a historic town dominated by a massive Gothic castle. End your trip here with a walk along the castle walls or a visit to the local family-run Florian Brewery. The route is very safe, but please exercise extra caution in the section near the rocks, as construction of a new suspension footbridge is underway there, which may result in construction equipment and a larger number of pedestrians in the area. Return to Karlovy Vary via the same route or, with your bikes, take the convenient train from the Loket-Předměstí station.
