Stekník Castle

1557

Stekník Castle is one of the most significant Rococo monuments in Bohemia and stands out as a unique landmark in the local landscape. Together with the town of Žatec, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an integral part of the historic hop-growing landscape. Visitors will be enchanted by its restored interiors featuring late Baroque murals, which evoke the era of its last private owner, Swiss Consul Gérold Déteindre. On the grounds, you’ll also find exhibitions dedicated to the tradition of hop picking and a unique Italian terraced garden, which is filled with blooming roses during the summer months.

Cyclists will appreciate that the site lies directly on the Eger Cycle Trail (cycle route No. 6). For a short break with coffee or a light snack, you can visit the cozy castle café.

Next stages

Source of the Eger River – Marktleuthen – Cheb

The adventure on the Eger Cycle Route begins at the river’s source on the northwestern slope of Schneeberg Mountain at an elevation of 752 meters, which is easily accessible from the cycling hub in Bischofsgrün. From there, the route follows the course of the Eger River through the stunning landscape of the Fichtelgebirge Mountains all the way to Cheb.

Cheb – Sokolov – Karlovy Vary

The second section of the Eger Cycle Route starts in Cheb, where you can visit the historic center with its Romanesque castle and legendary Špalíček. The route continues through Kynšperk nad Ohří and Sokolov to Loket, where the unique castle is worth a visit. The destination of this stage is Karlovy Vary.

Karlovy Vary – Klášterec nad Ohří – Kadaň

The third stage can be described as a spa stage. It starts in the largest Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary, leads through Kyselka with its rich spa tradition, and passes through Klášterec nad Ohří with the Evžénie spring. The stage ends in Kadaň.

Louny – Libochovice – Litoměřice

The final stage is full of historical monuments. It begins in Louny with the Church of St. Nicholas, leads through Libochovice with its castle, Budyně nad Ohří with its unique water castle, the fortress town of Terezín, and ends in the historic town of Litoměřice, where the Eger River flows into the Elbe.
