Karlovy Vary

Karlovy Vary is one of Europe’s famous spa towns listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city charms visitors with its elegant colonnades, healing springs, and the picturesque valley of the Eger River.

The most famous spring in Karlovy Vary is Vřídlo. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of treatments at the Alžbětiny or Zámecké spas, as well as explore the local culture associated with the production of porcelain, Moser glass, and the herbal liqueur Becherovka.

The surrounding countryside invites you to enjoy activities such as a trip to the Diana Lookout Tower, a visit to the Papilonia Butterfly House, a hike to the Jelení Skok Lookout, or wildlife watching in the Linhart Game Reserve. Active travelers can explore the Svatošské Rocks or take the Eger Cycle Route. You can also visit and enjoy numerous sports facilities, including golf courses and the Rolava complex, complemented by cultural events, led by the International Film Festival.

Next stages

Source of the Eger River – Marktleuthen – Cheb

The adventure on the Eger Cycle Route begins at the river’s source on the northwestern slope of Schneeberg Mountain at an elevation of 752 meters, which is easily accessible from the cycling hub in Bischofsgrün. From there, the route follows the course of the Eger River through the stunning landscape of the Fichtelgebirge Mountains all the way to Cheb.

Karlovy Vary – Klášterec nad Ohří – Kadaň

The third stage can be described as a spa stage. It starts in the largest Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary, leads through Kyselka with its rich spa tradition, and passes through Klášterec nad Ohří with the Evžénie spring. The stage ends in Kadaň.

Kadaň – Žatec – Louny

The fourth stage starts in the historic town of Kadaň, which boasts the narrowest street in the Czech Republic, a monastery, and the iconic white Town Hall Tower. The route continues to the Nechranice reservoir and Žatec, the heart of the hop-growing region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stage finishes in Louny.

Louny – Libochovice – Litoměřice

The final stage is full of historical monuments. It begins in Louny with the Church of St. Nicholas, leads through Libochovice with its castle, Budyně nad Ohří with its unique water castle, the fortress town of Terezín, and ends in the historic town of Litoměřice, where the Eger River flows into the Elbe.
